Simon Critchley is an English philosopher and serves as the Hans Jonas Professor of Philosophy at The New School of Social Research in New York. He writes about the history of philosophy, political theory, religion, ethics, aesthetics, literature, and theatre. Simon also serves as the moderator of The Stone, an regular opinion series for The New York Times. The Stone features the writings of contemporary thinkers on issues that include art, war, ethics, gender, and popular culture.
Simon studied philosophy and received a BA degree from the University of Essex in 1985 and a PhD in 1988. He obtained his M.Phil. at the University of Nice in 1987.
