Mark Bracher

Mark is a Professor of English at Kent State University. His research—on which he has published seven books and numerous articles, and for which he has received the University’s Outstanding Research and Scholarship Award—employs the methods and findings of the social, behavioral, cognitive, and neurosciences in order to understand and enhance the ways in which engaging with philosophical texts and other great books can develop cognitive and emotional capabilities that are crucial both for personal fulfillment and for optimal interpersonal and intergroup relations. Empirical studies have demonstrated that by studying philosophical and literary masterpieces under his tutelage, students improve their understanding of both themselves and others in ways that enhance both personal flourishing and relations with other individuals and groups. Mark received his PhD from Vanderbilt.
